The design of the Chatham references the International Style buildings that characterize the post-Art Deco period of Miami Beach using the vocabulary of abstract lines, glass planes and geometric solids combined with colorful murals to evoke the tropics. Walter Chatham - Architect for Mid-rise building Chatham at Aqua Walter F. Chatham began his career in the visual arts as a painter. Based in Manhattan, his architectural practice has always been influenced by painting and sculpture and he tries to approach each of his building designs as abstract art. An architecture graduate of the University of Maryland, he pursued graduate work at the Institute for Architecture and Urban studies in New York. Chatham is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and the American Academy in Rome, and served as President of the Architectural League of New York.
